InterDirector ReCast

One stream from the venue. Every platform, always on air.

  1. Save your upload bandwidth. Send one high-quality stream from the venue instead of one for every platform. ReCast, a server of your own in the cloud, sends it on to all of them.
  2. Never show your viewers a spinner. If the venue's upload dies, your platforms keep receiving a stream: a slate saying the broadcast continues shortly, and your Program back the moment it returns.

Buy ReCast hours

€20 for 24 hours, €30 for 48 hours or €80 for a week, VAT included, each a one-time purchase. It needs InterDirector, licensed or in its free trial, on an Apple Silicon Mac.

Upload bandwidth

Send one stream, reach every platform.

Streaming to four platforms from the venue means four streams on its upload, each at a lower quality than you would like, and any of them can falter. With ReCast you send one, at the quality you want, and it goes on from the cloud.

  • Up to six platforms at once, including a portrait version for Instagram and TikTok.
  • Recording of what it receives, to download from its page.
  • It follows your Show's picture: change the size or frame rate, and ReCast follows within half a minute.
  • Regions in Europe (Helsinki, Falkenstein, Nuremberg), the United States (Ashburn, Hillsboro) and Singapore.
The safety net

A dropped connection is a pause, not the end of the show.

I have streamed from enough venues to know the network is the one thing you cannot rehearse. Without ReCast, when it drops, every platform you stream to loses your stream at once: viewers see it stop, some platforms end the broadcast after a while, and the audience drifts away.

With ReCast, the platforms are fed from the cloud, not from the venue. When your Program stops arriving, ReCast cuts to its slate in the same picture format, and back to your Program as soon as InterDirector reconnects, which it does by itself. Your viewers never see a loading spinner or an ended stream: just a short pause.

ReCast looks after itself too. If its server is ever lost, another starts in its place within a minute or two, with the same address, your platforms set up as they were, and the ones that were streaming streaming again.

If the venue’s connection drops, ReCast keeps every platform live on a slate, and your Program comes back by itself.

Four platforms at 6 Mbit/s each. Straight from your Mac, the venue’s upload carries all four streams; through ReCast it carries one, and ReCast sends it on to every platform from the cloud.
How it works

Start it from InterDirector.

  1. Buy hours. Your ReCast key arrives by email. The hours start when it first starts ReCast, so you can buy them ahead of the show.
  2. Start ReCast. In InterDirector, choose Tools ▸ ReCast…, paste the key, pick a region and press Start. About a minute and a half later it is ready, and InterDirector adds it to your stream destinations.
  3. Set your platforms and go live. Add your platforms on ReCast's page in InterDirector's streaming settings, where they are remembered for next time, or on ReCast's own page. Press Stream in InterDirector as always.

InterDirector shows the time left and warns you before the end. Need longer? Buy more hours and add them. The help page has the details.
