Tally and control from InterDirector
A phone set up from InterDirector’s QR code keeps a small connection back to InterDirector while it sends. Tally comes down it, and so do InterDirector’s camera controls. On your network the phone connects to InterDirector itself; over the internet, to the relay that carries its stream. Neither needs anything set up beyond the scan.
Tally
While the phone’s input is on Program, a red bar runs along the top and the bottom of the phone’s screen; while it is in Preview, a green one. Nothing otherwise. The bars are along the phone’s top and bottom whichever way it is held, and stay while the screen is dimmed or the controls are hidden. Red on the screen only ever means Program: Start and the sending light are coral.
An input counts as on Program while it is Program or the target of a transition to it. A phone that is one layer of a Composite on Program is not lit by it.
Where tally comes from
- On your network, from InterDirector on port 49723, with a key of the input’s own in its QR code. The key lets the phone read that one input’s tally and nothing else. New Tally Key, beside InterDirector Cam QR Code… in the input’s settings, makes a new one: a phone using the old key stops showing tally until it scans the new code.
- Over the internet, from the relay, with the login the phone already has for its stream.
Tally comes only with a scan: an address typed by hand has none. Settings › Connection on the phone says how tally is doing:
- Tally connected.
- Tally connecting…
- Tally not connected: trying again. The phone keeps trying on its own.
- Tally connects when the phone sends. Tally runs only while the phone sends.
- No tally: it comes with a scan of InterDirector’s code.
Control from InterDirector
While the phone is connected, its input’s card in InterDirector shows a camera button beside the gear, and its right-click menu Camera Control…. Either opens a small Camera window for that phone, which floats beside your show and does not stop you switching; each input has its own, and several can be open at once.
It sets what the phone’s own controls set:
- Lens: any of the phone’s back lenses.
- Zoom: the slider goes straight to a zoom, and holding − or + zooms as the phone’s rocker does, eased as on the phone.
- Focus: Auto, with AF-L to hold it, or Manual, with a slider from near to far.
- Exposure: Auto, with Compensation and AE-L, or Manual, with ISO and Shutter.
- White balance: Auto, with AWB-L, or Manual, with Kelvin, Tint and the Presets.
The window shows the phone’s own values as they are, whoever changed them. The phone’s operator can change them too; the last change wins, from either side. Each change from InterDirector moves the phone’s controls and shows a note on the phone for a moment, such as Zoom set from InterDirector.
InterDirector never starts or stops the phone, and never changes its connection, its format or its sound. While the phone uses its front camera, the window has no lenses to offer.
It works the same on your network and over the internet.
Turning it off on the phone
Settings › Connection › Allow control from InterDirector, on to begin with. Off, the phone ignores InterDirector’s changes at once, sending or not, and the Camera window says the phone’s operator has turned control off. Tally is unaffected.
Simple mode hides focus, exposure and white balance from the phone’s screen, but InterDirector can still set them.
