Moving a Show to another Mac
A Show file holds your settings, not your media: it points at the videos, images, overlays and data files it uses wherever they are. On another Mac, anything it points at has to be there too.
Keep the show folder together
Files kept inside the folder the Show is saved in, or in folders inside it, travel with it: InterDirector saves their places relative to the Show, so the whole folder works wherever you put it, on any Mac. Files kept anywhere else are saved by their full path, and are only found where that path exists.
Save As with Files
When a Show uses files from all over, File › Save As with Files… gathers them for you.
- Choose File › Save As with Files….
- Pick the folder to save into (an empty folder on a USB stick, or in a shared cloud folder, is ideal) and a name for the Show.
- Choose Save with Files.
The Show is saved in that folder, and every file it uses is copied into a Media files folder beside it. When it is done, the window is the new Show, pointing at the copies. Your original Show and its files are not changed.
Copy or sync that folder, Show file and Media files together, and open the Show on the other Mac.
Where the files go
- Each file goes in a folder named for the one it came from.
graphics/logo.pngbecomesMedia files/graphics/logo.png. No file is ever renamed. - If two of your folders have the same name and a file of the same name in each, the second folder’s files go in
graphics 2. - A folder an input follows is copied as it is, subfolders and all, so the input finds the same files. So is an overlay’s own folder and an image folder an overlay uses.
- A file inside a folder that is being copied is not copied twice.
- A shortcut or alias is copied as the file it points at.
What is copied, and what is not
- Copied: media and image files, followed folders, custom overlays and their images, data files, and your replay clips.
- Not copied: your recordings, which stay where they are; InterDirector’s built-in overlays, which every copy of InterDirector already has; and web pages shown by a web input.
- Missing files are listed when it finishes. The Show still points at where they were, so they can be relinked later.
Stream keys and passwords go with the copy, as they do in every saved Show. Anyone who has the folder has them.
While it copies
A window shows how far it has got. Cancel stops it and removes whatever was copied, so nothing is left half-done.
It checks for enough free space first. If the chosen folder already has a Media files folder, it stops and says so: files are never mixed with an earlier copy, because another Show may still use them. Choose another folder, or remove the old one.
During a show
You can save with files while streaming or recording. It asks first, and lists the inputs that will reopen from their copies when it is done, which shows if one of them is on Program. Nothing stops, and the copy runs at a lower priority than recording.
